Darya Dugina, daughter of a close Putin-aide was killed when a bomb in her car blew up on a highway near Moscow.

Russia’s investigative committee announced that Dugina died after her car exploded during her trip back home. The target of the attack is speculated to have been her father, Alexander Dugin, known to be Vladimir Putin’s “brain.”

Both, the father and daughter, were to travel back together from a festival taking place near Moscow where they were the guests of honor. Dugin, at the last minute decided to travel separately.

Darya Dugina was confirmed to have died in the blast near the village of Bolshiye Vyazemy. The incident is being investigated and Russian authorities say the explosive device went off before the car caught fire, so it wasn’t an accident.

Her father, who holds no public office is a known ultra-nationalist and a vital figure in Russian politics. He is said to be the brains behind Putin’s stance against the West, Catholic Church, and Ukraine.

Darya Dugina was a journalist who supported the invasion of Ukraine and was sanctioned by the US and UK earlier this year for spreading disinformation in support of Russia’s invasion.
