British intelligence knew about terrorist who attacked Texas Synagogue
In 2020, British intelligence agency, MI5, had terrorist Malik Faisal Akram who was behind Sunday’s Colleyville, Texas Synagogue attack on its “active” watchlist.
The 44-year-old, from Lancashire County, England was investigated by the MI5 in late 2020 but was ultimately demoted to the “subject of interest” watchlist, and was no longer considered a threat.
Akram who had a criminal record in the UK then traveled to the US about two weeks ago and held four people hostage during a standoff that lasted for about 11 hours.
The hostages were freed unharmed after the terrorist was shot dead by Police. Since the UK is assisting the FBI with the investigation, two teenagers have been arrested in England and are believed to be involved with the terrorist in some way.
Akram had gained access to the Synagogue after pretending to be homeless, and then took out his gun while the victims were praying.
It isn’t clear how Akram got hold of a weapon, or how he bought it while he was in the US. Which is why a thorough investigation is being conducted, looking at his finances, any sort of funding, links, and whether he was connected to any terrorist organization.
Akram was heard demanding the release of convicted Pakistani neuroscientist Aafia Siddiqui, who had tried to kill American servicemembers in Afghanistan and had links to terrorist organization al-Qaeda.
Akram’s brother and those close to him have claimed he was suffering from a mental illness.
