Robert F. Kennedy’s assassin recommended for parole
Two of Robert F. Kennedy’s children support California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s decision to parole his assassin Sirhan Sirhan.
Sirhan Sirhan, 77, was recommended for bail by California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Douglas Kennedy, sons of the assassinated senator supported the recommendation to parole assassin Sirhan Sirhan while six other children have strongly condemned and opposed the decision.
“He took our father from our family and he took him from America,” the opposing six children expressed in a statement on Friday. “We are in disbelief that this man would be recommended for release.”
“Overwhelmed just by being able to view Mr Sirhan face to face. I’ve lived my life both in fear of him and his name in one way or another. And I am grateful today to see him as a human being worthy of compassion and love.” told Douglas Kennedy in a virtual hearing.
Robert Kennedy Jr., had supported Sirhan Sirhan’s parole in the past as well. He wrote in support of the parole, saying he was moved when he first met Sirhan who “wept clinching [his] hand and asked for forgiveness.”
Robert F. Kennedy was the US Attorney general when his older brother, venerable John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas in 1963. Five years after the President’s assassination, Robert F. Kennedy as a senator from New York was also killed at the Ambassador hotel in Los Angeles after delivering a heroic speech.
