Afghanistan: Anti-Taliban forces unite in Northern Afghanistan
Anti-Taliban forces that include militias of the north and scraps of the Afghan army have allegedly taken control of three districts close to Panjsher Valley. The Taliban have not commented on the incident but the anti-Taliban forces are declaring victory and claimed the Taliban fighters to have fled after suffering heavy casualties.
Afghanistan’s First Vice-President Amrullah Saleh has already announced himself as the interim President after Ghani’s departure and has been speaking against the Taliban while declaring that it’s not over.
“Resistance against the terrorist Taliban is a must for each of us. #Pul-e-Hesar, Deh Salah and Banu districts in Baghlan have been captured by the People’s Resistance Forces. The resistance is still alive,” said General Bismillah Mohammadi of the resistance and Afghanistan’s Defense Minister prior to the fall of Kabul.
Social media is abuzz over the news but it is too early to call where these fights will lead and if things can change after the Taliban got hold of US weapons and equipment.
