Afghanistan: Taliban enjoy American treasures left behind by Afghan army

by News Desk August 21, 2021

Millions of rounds of ammunition, hundreds of thousands of state of the art weapons and thousands of Humvees that were given to the Afghan forces are now at the hands of the Taliban, who are now equipped with the weapons and roaming in the Humvees to conduct surveillance and other operations.

As the US security forces are researching over how many weapons have fallen into the wrong hands, the Taliban are releasing videos that show stockpiles of advanced rifles and weaponry, along with Humvees and other mine resistant vehicles that will help them combat any opposition led by other outfits in the country.

Earlier reports had suggested Taliban to have control over several helicopters and other military aircrafts, funded by the US for the usage of the Afghan army which dropped arms and ran away.

As there can be no accurate answer over how many weapons, vehicles and aircraft the Taliban now posses it has raised alarms all over the World as the weapons and especially the aircraft can pose a threat to regional and global security. Taliban have announced the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan but have still not formed a functioning government even after being in control of Afghanistan for a week. With no proper government in place we can never be too sure of their policies and if any spoilers could take advantage of the situation and conduct an aerial attack.

The Taliban have already released photographs of their fighters equipped with US made weapons on Afghanistan’s Independence day, we are not sure if the weapons are actively being used against civilians but it does seem likely so.

Not only do the Taliban have the latest equipment but they also have fully functioning bases all over Afghanistan that were given to the Afghan army only to leave for the Taliban to take and quietly train their personnel on how to fly the 200 aircrafts and heavy machinery against any opposition, while also quietly drafting strategies.

Some videos on social media suggest anti-Taliban resistance taking control of various districts in Northern Afghanistan, and Taliban response teams are allegedly shown to be heading that way. If modern equipment is used then that will be a huge blow to the resistance.

One of the United States’ most wanted terrorist Khalil Haqqani has been appointed as the Defense Minister by the Taliban and he is seen brandishing a US-made weapon in pictures and videos posted online. With a $5-million bounty on his head, Haqqani has been seen cracking deals with other tribal leaders and former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s brother too, who has allegedly announced his support for the Taliban government.
