Former Minneapolis Police officer Kim Potter who shot and killed Daunte Wright has been found guilty of first and second-degree manslaughter.

Kim Potter, 49, claimed she had accidentally shot Wright thinking she was using her taser. Wright’s death – occurred when the Derek Chauvin trial was ongoing – caused protests that soon turned into riots.

Her sentencing is scheduled for February 18. Potter had broken down during her testimony, saying she was “sorry” as she didn’t know she was using her gun.

The Jury deliberated for about 27 hours over the course of four days before coming to a decision. Both charges can carry a maximum sentence of about 25 years and about $50,000 in fines.

Throughout her career that spanned for about 26 years, Potter had only used a gun once which resulted in the death of Daunte Wright.
