Derek Chauvin found ‘guilty’ on all three charges
The trial which spanned for about two weeks has come to an end with the final verdict by the jury charging the former Minneapolis Police officer Mr. Derek Chauvin ‘guilty’ with all three charges.
The Jury reached its verdict on the second day of deliberations.
Mr. Chauvin was on trial for second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter and has been found guilty on all three of the aforementioned counts.
His face grieved in “shock” when the verdict was being announced and was later handcuffed and taken into Police custody after the Judge affirmed the Jury’s verdict and revoked his bail. The Jury included 12 people (7 women and 5 men with 4 of them black).
George Floyd’s family is in tears and there is a lot of emotion wherever they are seen, they can finally go back home in peace and will be grateful for this verdict. Now that the verdict has come against Derek Chauvin, the animosity against law enforcement and the Justice system should come to an end. The rioters (who were geared up outside the building and throughout the country), no longer have an excuse to attack public and private property and they too can be seen celebrating the verdict.
As for Derek Chauvin, his Defense team tried as hard as they could but in the end could not get the verdict in their favor, they even requested the Jury to be sequestered from the very beginning as opinions and information about the case were all over the media and the internet, and it was allegedly impossible for the Jury to avoid seeing information pertaining to the case even after being asked by the Judge to avoid watching TV. Defense Counsel Eric Nelson had said the only way to avoid information about the case would have been if you “literally shut down your phone, tv and laptop”, and though he may have been right the Judge dismissed those concerns along with the mistrial he sought.
Congresswoman Maxine Waters’ controversial remarks were also brought to the case and they even had the Judge agree that she had given benefit to the Defense.
Peace has finally come to Minneapolis after almost a year of violence and distrust. One thing we all have to agree with is that this wasn’t State v. Law Enforcement but State v. Derek Chauvin and one man’s actions do not represent that of the Department he represents or represented. Legal experts are saying that the Supreme Court may overrule this decision because of Congresswoman Waters’ remarks, she has always been controversial and has tried to entice a crowd to pressurize the Jury. This makes us wonder if the Democrats would (apart from the character assassinations) have moved articles of impeachment against the congresswoman if she was a Republican?
