Former Police officer Kim Potter breaks down at trial

by News Desk December 17, 2021

Former Minneapolis Police officer Kim Potter who shot and killed Daunte Wright instead of tasing him broke down during her testimony.

Potter, 49, said she accidentally drew her gun instead of her taser to shoot and consequentially kill Daunte Wright. She is now facing two manslaughter charges for killing Wright who was resisting arrest as seen in the bodycam footage released by Police.

20-year-old Daunte Wright was stopped by Police on April 11, 2021 for having an expired license plate. Officers soon discovered that Wright had a “gross misdemeanor warrant” and an arrest was issued for him.

As Wright was resisting his arrest, officer Potter shouted “taser, taser, taser” before pulling out her gun and shooting him. In the video, she can then be heard to be distraught by what she had just done.

Wright’s death took place while the Derek Chauvin trial was ongoing. Protests broke out and protestors then clashed with the Police to soon become rioters. The situation however, was controlled sooner than many anticipated. Wright’s mother had called for calm.

During her testimony, Potter said she was standing near Wright’s vehicle while her partner was struggling to arrest him. She said her actions came after she saw “fear” on the officer’s face, which was something she’d “never seen.”

Potter revealed that she didn’t know that she had shot Wright. It was the other officer who told her that she fired her gun after “nothing happened” when she took out her taser.

She revealed that in her career spanning about 26 years, she had never fired a gun before.

Throughout her testimony, Potter remained emotional and broke down as she recalled the incident. She said that she “just shot somebody,” something she had never done before.

Potter, crying, said she was “sorry.” Sorry for what had happened.

Closing arguments to begin on Monday

Closing arguments will begin on Monday after the Defense rested its case on Friday. The Jury has been shown how it can be an accident, and the Jury has been told how it can be negligence.

Ultimately, they will decide whether Potter is guilty of manslaughter or not.

Many online are supporting Potter as they believe it to be an accident. The other side however, believes it to be a racial issue. Portraying Potter as an officer who deliberately shot a “Black man.”

Although, some in the far-Left are saying that it could have been an accident, and are supporting Potter, but many are judging her break down, and calling her tears “fake.”

Things might get tense once the Jury starts deliberating.
