Two George Floyd rioters sentenced for destroying police car
Two men have been sentenced to 48 and 27 months in federal prison after being convicted of destroying a police car during the 2020 George Floyd riots.
Christopher West, 36, of Pittsburg will serve four years in prison, while DaJon Lengyel, 24, of McKees Rocks will serve 27 months. West received a harsher sentence because of his criminal history.
Both men were sentenced on Friday in connection with destroying a police vehicle and trying to set it on fire. Several videos online showed the two convicts getting on top of a Pittsburg police car and stomping on it like monkeys on May 30, 2020.
As the two were attempting to set the vehicle ablaze, they were joined in by other rioters. The group had placed paper and cardboard in the backseat of the car while one of them ignited the material.
Both West and Lengyel had pleaded guilty to convictions of conspiracy and obstruction of law enforcement in connection with the riots. West however, still faces state charges for allegedly snatching the camera of a photographer during the riots.
West who has a criminal history gave a lengthy speech in court and said he should never have followed the crowd. Saying how he should have been a leader and not a follower.
These convictions are the first of many more to come. After George Floyd’s death, many BLM and other rioters burned, robbed and destroyed both public and private property.
As Derek Chauvin was sentenced to 22 1/2 years in prison for the murder, authorities are now tightening the grip over the criminals that were unleashed throughout the US.
What started as peaceful protests after George Floyd’s death, soon turned into violent riots. Mobs ended up robbing and destroying public/private property during weeks of endless lawlessness.
The law is now finally catching up with them.
