The war on terror ends with the largest non-combatant 18-day evacuation in the military’s history, after starting on August 14.
The US military evacuated 79,000 civilians from the Kabul airport in 18 days. 6,000 out of the 79,000 were Americans, the rest being third-country and Afghan nationals.
The US military evacuated over 7,500 civilians on average, the single-day highest hitting 19,000 over the 18-day period.
13 service members lost their lives in a terror attack during the operation and their bodies arrived on US soil yesterday.
