Afghanistan: There was only one explosion – Pentagon

by News Desk August 27, 2021

After initial LIVE reports and the Pentagon saying there were two explosions, the statement has now been corrected with the latest information.

Maj. Gen. William Taylor in a press conference corrected earlier reports of the two explosions and he said only one occurred outside the Abbey gate at the Kabul airport.

“We don’t believe there was a second explosion at or near the Hotel. It was only one suicide bomber. We are not sure how that report was provided incorrectly,” Maj. Gen. William Taylor said.

Joint Staff deputy director Maj. Gen. Taylor briefed that the wounded service members were taken to the US’s Ramstein Air Base in Germany.

Over 300 Americans have been evacuated from Kabul in the past 24 hours, said Maj Gen. William Taylor. The total number now has crossed 5,000 and it was reported yesterday that only 1000 Americans remain in Afghanistan.
