Myanmar’s Aung San Suu Kyi sentenced to four years in prison
The military-run court found Suu Kyi guilty of election fraud in the November 2020 general election that her Party, the National League for Democracy, won monumentally.
The deposed leader has now been sentenced to 20 years in prison collectively. She still faces 11 more charges which could stretch her sentence to around 200 years.
Suu Kyi remains under house arrest as she faces the charges leveled against her. The most recent three years sentencing includes hard labor. The “politically-motivated” court hearings have been criticized as they are conducted in-camera behind closed doors with no public or media personnel allowed inside.

The military is defending the trials against Suu Kyi and others nabbed during the coup as “normal legal process.”
Over 12,000 people are imprisoned since the February 2021 coup. Most being pro-Democracy demonstrators and activists, including journalists.
