Oakland middle school shooting leaves 13-year-old injured

A 13-year-old middle school student was injured in an East Oakland school shooting by a 12-year-old who has been arrested.

The shooting occurred around 1:20PM on Monday at the Madison Park Academy in Oakland’s Sobrante Park neighborhood. The juvenile suspect was taken into custody with his gun recovered after he fled the scene.

The victim was soon shifted to a local hospital. His identity has not been revealed and the level of his injuries remains unknown. The victim is said to be in a stable condition and is undergoing a surgery.

A large number of Police officers responded to the scene and could be seen standing outside the building as parents waited for their children.

An investigation is underway and it isn’t clear at the moment if either of the students took classes in the middle school, and whether the incident occurred inside or outside the school.
