Alleged bank robber rescued from tunnel near the Vatican
An Italian man who is also alleged to be a bank robber was rescued from a collapsed tunnel near the Vatican, according to Police.
Police suspect the man was digging his way to the bank in a bid to rob it. Firefighters took eight hours to rescue the man out of the collapsed tunnel, he is expected to survive and has been hospitalized.
Authorities believe the man is part of a gang scheming to rob a bank. Another suspect has been arrested for allegedly resisting a “public official.”
Both of the suspects have also been detained for damaging public property. Although, Police are still investigating and the robbery is one of the “theories,” the local Italian media is certain it was a forthcoming heist as the tunnel was discovered just ahead of August 15’s long weekend when most of the City is quiet.
