Russian silence has World alerted; invasion expected around the 16th
President Biden is set to talk to Vladimir Putin in what experts believe to be one final time before Russia invades Ukraine.
As the Soviet nation is silent, the World quietly watches and remains alerted. Putin’s last few attempts to coerce the World into doing what he wanted failed and now that nothing else can be done, an invasion to save face and bring chaos in Ukraine may be his last effort to challenge NATO presence in Eastern Europe, and Ukraine’s wish to join the alliance.
Biden is set to speak early on Saturday morning but not much is expected as Putin would reiterate his impractical demands. Russia had wanted the call on Monday but the US convinced it for a Saturday dialogue.
Chairman Joint Chiefs Mark Milley had already held a call with his Russian counterpart on Friday over security concerns.
Gen. Milley also held calls with his counterparts from France, Canada, Germany, Poland, Italy and Romania – over the movement of US troops in Europe and the collective security of the countries.
It has already been decided that the Pentagon will deploy about 3,000 more paratroopers in Poland who are set to join the close to 2,000 already deployed in the country.
As Putin can give the orders at any time – and the Russian troops have started their military exercises at the Ukrainian border – anonymous experts believe the Ukraine will be invaded around Feb. 16.
Moscow is quiet but Russian troops are all set to enter Ukraine. All eyes are now on Putin, and is this the calm before the storm?
