Houthi drone attack kills 3 in Abu Dhabi

by News Desk January 17, 2022

Yemen’s Iranian-backed Houthi rebels conducted a drone attack near UAE’s Abu Dhabi airport, killing at least 3 people and injuring six.

The Houthis have announced to hold a news briefing on a “special military operation” conducted against the UAE.

Abu Dhabi Police said three oil tankers blew up in the Mussafah area after they caught fire. Authorities are suggesting it is too early to identify the ‘incident’ or attack, but a suicidal drone is suspected.

A suicidal drone nosedives on its target before blowing up in a kamikaze styled attack.

The UAE has been part of the Saudi coalition that has attacked Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen since 2015. The Houthis are trying to overthrow Yemen’s Saudi-backed government.

The Saudi-led coalition however, wants to end ‘destabilizing’ Iranian influence in the country that has no borders with Iran.

At least two Indians and a Pakistani were killed in the attack, according to UAE media. The Houthis have long claimed of conducting attacks on the country, something the latter has always denied.

UAE Police are still hesitant to determine this as a drone attack. Houthis however, are preparing to make the announcement.
