A 20-year-old Georgia man was arrested after he fatally shot his mother and stepfather at their Oconee County home on Tuesday.

Peyton Moyer, 20, has been charged with two counts of murder and one count of cruelty to children. He is being held at the Oconee County Jail.

Police say Moyer killed his mother, 41-year-old Ashley Schultza, and her husband, 54-year-old Benjamin Smith. Deputies had responded to reports of a shooting at around midnight on Tuesday.

Upon entering the residence, the deputies found Schultza and Smith dead. The two kids in the house, Moyer’s sisters, were found uninjured.

After shooting his parents, Moyer fled the scene and was later arrested by the Athens Clarke County Police.

Moyer’s motive is yet to be made public as the incident is still under investigation.
