VP Mike Pence asks Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade

by News Desk December 1, 2021

Former Vice-President Mike Pence has asked the Supreme Court to overturn 1973’s Roe v. Wade ruling that legalized abortions in the US.

The Supreme Court is set to hear arguments over a Mississippi law that bans abortions after 15 weeks. The arguments will begin on Wednesday, and the ruling may come later next year.

Pence has said that Roe v. Wade’s ruling had harmed millions of unborn kids, and it was a “misguided” decision. He now hopes that the Supreme Court will make history by reversing the ruling, and giving constitutional rights to unborn babies who have a beating heart.

Roe v. Wade gave women the right to have an abortion. The Supreme Court had ruled that women have the constitutional right to have an abortion in the first three months of pregnancy, and controlled rights in the next three.

Pence believes elected local, and state officials better understand the majority’s pulse, and should have the power to set abortion laws, as they know the pulse of the majority they are representing. He has argued that “unelected judges” cannot know the popular opinion.

Although, the Supreme Court might not reverse the ruling anytime soon, but a ruling in favor of pro-life laws will restrict abortions throughout the country, and set a familiar precedent.

Pence has said that he doesn’t know whether the Supreme Court would overturn Roe v. Wade, but he is confident that the “tide has turned.”

He added that “Americans are ready to end the judicial tyranny” of Roe v. Wade.

Roe v. Wade had always split the US in half, one side supports it, while the other is against it. Whatever the Supreme Court rules will be monumental.
