Off-duty Police officer killed in Texas crash; suspect was drunk
An off-duty Texas Police officer was killed, and three of his family members injured on Saturday in a crash in Tarrant county.
Detective Alejandro Cervantes of the Euless Police Department was travelling with his family at Boat Club Road in Lake Worth at around 2PM when their vehicle was hit by a Wrangler.
Detective Alejandro died on the spot, a woman, and two children were injured and taken to a nearby Hospital. The injured woman has “critical, life threatening injuries,” and two children “who were in the back seat” are also suffering from serious injuries.
Detective Alejandro Cervantes served with the El Paso Police Department for 8 years before serving with the Euless Police Department for about seven years.
Alex had served honorably with out Police Department for almost 7 years and was a member of our Police Department Honor Guard Team. He has also previously served 8 years with the El Paso Police Department. More information about the victims and the crash will be released after the Euless Police Department notifies the family members.
The suspect was identified as Dylan Molina, 26, of Lake Worth, and is in police custody. He was attempting to escape the scene on foot but was stopped by the locals until Police arrived.
He was intoxicated and is set to be charged with intoxication manslaughter, and other counts of aggravated assault.
Molina was speeding and ran his vehicle on a red light to ram into the Detective’s car.
