Calif. County won’t take ICE transfer requests of illegals who committed crimes

by News Desk November 10, 2021

A California County Sheriff announced that his office would no longer take any requests from ICE over the release or transfers of illegals.

San Mateo County Sheriff Carlos Bolanos announced that the policy would be effective from last Tuesday.

“It has become apparent to me that complying with those requests regarding the pending release of undocumented individuals who have committed serious crimes is undermining the trust we need to protect the community,” Sheriff Bolanos said.

“It simply is not worth losing the trust of many members of the public by continuing to process these requests from ICE,” he added.

The Sheriff said San Mateo policy is now “consistent with other Bay Area counties.”

His office came up with this policy after consulting “hundreds” of residents.

The statement added that “the Sheriff’s Office is here to protect the public, not enforce immigration laws.”

Strangely enough, the statement acknowledged the fact that in 2020, most individuals transferred to ICE were “convicted of serious felonies.”

The County however, has decided it best to stop sending illegal immigrants who commit “serious offenses” to ICE for deportation/convictions.

ICE can still obtain a judicial warrant, but it will be a long and arduous process with a lot of red tape.
