Sudan’s general declares state of emergency, dissolves government
Sudan’s leading general declares a state of emergency after his military forces detained the acting Prime Minister and disrupted the internet services of the country in an apparent coup d’etat.
Gen. Abdel-Fattah Burhan, in a televised address, announced a state of emergency while dissolving the country’s ruling Sovereign Council alongside the government led by acting Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok.
He said the disputes between the political groups forced the military to intervene but pledged to complete the country’s democratic transition, leading Sudan to elections with a new competent technocrat government.
