Mayorkas Senate hearing postponed after he tests positive for COVID
DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ scheduled appearance before the Senate Judiciary Committee has been postponed after he tested positive for COVID.
He was to appear before the Senate on Thursday as the annual number of migrant detentions reached an all-time high since 1986.
Mayorkas tested positive for COVID earlier this week. He is in quarantine which has restricted his physical appearance at the hearing.
Democratic Senator Dick Durbin has announced to reschedule the meeting after the Republicans denied having Mayorkas appear virtually.
As the migrant crisis continues to put American lives in danger, Republicans are expected to batter Mayorkas.
Over 1.5 million migrants have been apprehended in 2021 alone. President Biden and his VP had announced to welcome all migrants with open arms at their campaign trails. Their promises instigated a historical rise in illegal crossings and attempts.
Apprehensions reached an all-time high in July as the US detained over 200,000 illegals, and 200,000 thousand more were apprehended in August as well. The rest of the year saw over a 100,000 migrants at the Southern border.
The situation at the border got so far out of control that Mayorkas had to use President Trump’s COVID health order, which used to be called racist.
The Biden Administration’s alleged late-night flights from the border and into the north have also made Mayorkas’ appearance critical.
Thursday’s hearing will now see Attorney General Merrick Garland
The Republicans are now set to batter Attorney General Merrick Garland on Thursday. DOJ asking the FBI to look into mask mandate and “critical race theory” induced “threats” against teachers sparked outrage among parents.
The hearing will see Senators ask how the DOJ plans to differentiate protests of concerned parents from real threats.
They may also ask whether Garland supports the “critical race theory,” and whether his personal views influence his professional decisions.
