Afghanistan: China starts injecting money
China has started sending out food and other supplies worth $31 million to Afghanistan that is now under a Taliban government.
Spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry, Hua Chunyin said the decision comes after foreign ministers of the neighboring countries met.
The money will be used “for the Afghan people” and according to their state-controlled media, China will also donate 3 million vaccine doses to country.
China tested its COVID vaccines on the people of Pakistan well before the clinical trials and once proven “effective” vowed to send it to all lower income countries.
Yesterday, the Taliban announced the formation of a hardline interim government, and China had for months shown its desire to work with the Taliban, eyeing Afghanistan’s precious metals.
China also expects the Taliban to crackdown on the Uyghur minority in Afghanistan which the Chinese see as a threat.
Experts worry the injection of “aid” and loans by China when the World is sidelining Afghanistan will make the Taliban commit gross human-rights violations as well as dish out the country’s mineral wealth to the Chinese for exploitation.
As the World is mounting pressure on the Taliban to ascertain human-rights, China is busy wooing them to get everything they want done.
“Aid” and loans when the Taliban government was facing hardships will make them grateful and China would then expect them to return the favor.
China was however, worried for almost a week, as the Taliban announced support for the Kashmir Muslims of India.
The Chinese were shocked and worried that the Taliban would once again support all “struggles” involving Muslims, and also the persecution faced by them in China’s Xinjiang.
Stopping the Taliban from going into Xinjiang is where Pakistan comes into play.
Having been accused of supporting the Taliban since their inception, Pakistan that is under extreme debt and had no other choice sided with China.
The Chinese have injected billions of dollars in Pakistan just like they have in Africa. Pakistan even “leased” its important Gwadar port to the Chinese for its Belt and Road initiative.
The country now has no other choice to side with China which it calls its “all-weather friend.”
Doing, or even showing intent for anything in their interest but against the Chinese interest puts Pakistan on the backpedal either through protests or the divided government or political structure.
The Pakistan government faced a huge setback from China when news broke of Pakistani women married to Chinese nationals were sold to Chinese prostitution rackets.
The news rocked Pakistan and was all over their media but a strong reaction by the Chinese government prompted Pakistan to take action and silence its media, which over the years has come under intense Chinese styled censorship.
The Pakistan government was again shocked very recently when China reacted in a strong formal way over a suicide bombing in Pakistan that killed Chinese engineers.
Telling Pakistan to ascertain the safety of the Chinese workers, China’s unexpected reaction left the Pakistan government dangling.
With all ministers, including the political structure either labelling the attack an accident or indeed a terrorist attack targeting the Chinese.
The Pakistan army like before came in to stabilize the relationship.
Imran Khan’s government after coming into power in Pakistan came under intense pressure from the opposition and China after it announced to renegotiate the Chinese CPEC.
Things escalated for the worst and Pakistan government officials who called for the renegotiations were soon barred by the Chinese from attending meetings involving CPEC, and the former chief of the Pakistan intelligence’s media wing was then involved to calm things down with China.
Khan’s government that does not have a complete majority and relies on other parties to stay in power has eventually sided with China.
Neither he nor the country can afford to lose China at a time when the economy is struggling, and when the country only runs because of the Chinese “investments.”
China is now eyeing the same thing with Afghanistan, and quick “friendly” “investments” early on will forever put Afghanistan under Chinese control.
It would have the rare-earth metals, action against the Uygur and also have a backup plan if Pakistan in the future eyes its own interest.
