Mexico: Earthquake hits Acapulco
Update: Tsunami warning issued.
A powerful 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit the Pacific coast of Mexico, in the proximity of Acapulco resort city.
The impact was also felt in nearby regions including in Mexico City, inducing pandemonium in the people, exhorting them to come out of their houses.
Power blackouts were also reported in the affected areas and one man was killed due to a falling post in the city of Coyuca de Benítez.
Acapulco city mayor Adela Román told the earthquake induced “nervous breakdowns” in the city.
Over 90 aftershocks were recorded and the initial depth of the quake was over 7 miles deep.
Close to two million people are without electricity in Mexico City and various other parts of the country.
Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said there were no reports of any major damage in the country, although, utility polls fell on vehicles and part of a church tumbled, as reported by the AFP news agency.
