South Carolina lawyer shot in head 3 months after murder of wife and son

Alex Murdaugh, a prominent South Carolina lawyer was shot in the head after he stopped to change the tire of his car. This took place nearly three months after Mr. Murdaugh’s wife and son were found fatally shot.

Alex was on his way to Charleston when his car stopped on Salkehatchie Road in Hampton County and was shot in the head as he tried change the tire, according to his lawyer, Jim Griffin.

Mr. Murdaugh, conscious and able to speak, told one of his brothers, Randy Murdaugh, that he pulled over to change the tire when someone in a truck moved past him, then turned back around and shot him, told Mr. Griffin.

According to Jim, Murdaugh was airlifted to the Medical University of South Carolina hospital, Charleston.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division’s spokesperson, Tim Crosby, confirmed the shooting took place in Hampton County. No further details were provided.

Mr. Murdaugh, 53, comes from a family of lawyers well known in South Carolina. His father, grandfather and great grandfather all were prosecutors in the southern part of the state.

On June 07, Mr. Murdaugh found his son Paul Murdaugh and wife Maggie Murdaugh shot fatally when he returned home.

Paul, 22, and Maggie, 52, at the time of their deaths were shot multiple times.

The police is investigating the double homicide, albeit, no arrests have been made.

Mr. Murdaugh’s son, Paul, was indicted for allegedly crashing a boat under influence in February 2019, killing a 19-year-old girl in the process. He was awaiting trial before getting shot alongside his mother in June.

“The Murdaugh family has suffered through more than any one family can ever imagine. We expect Alex to recover and ask for your privacy while he recovers,” Murdaugh’s relatives expressed in a statement on Saturday.
