Afghanistan: Taliban announce pardon for Government officials
In a bid to get the bureaucracy and government officials back to work and restart the system, the Taliban have announced a pardon for all government servants and have urged them to get back to work.
“A general amnesty has been declared for all. So you should start your routine life with full confidence,” the AFP quoted a Taliban statement as saying.
While some reports have shown the Taliban storming houses to catch certain officials, this news brings in something positive for the people living in Kabul. Already in fear of persecution, government officials are on the run and many have even fled Kabul, but those who remain might now contact the Taliban for the general pardon.
Those who have worked with Western-backed organizations fear for the worst and there is still uncertainty over how the Taliban would react after capturing them.
