North Korea commands the youth to use their own language
North Korea’s official newspaper addressed the youth to use their standard language as the authoritarian state deprecates lexical terms widely used in South Korea.
External influence is a threat to the despotic state and anyone possessing or consuming media not approved by the government is punishable by death.
The official newspaper, The Rodong Sinmun, stated in an article, “The ideological and cultural penetration under the colorful colored signboard of the bourgeoisie is even more dangerous than enemies who are taking guns”, highlighting the threat foreign influence poses.
The youth was also warned to only use the ‘superior’ standard Korean slang of Pyongyang dialect to adopt a lifestyle that is acceptable by the totalitarian state.
“When the new generations have a sound sense of ideology and revolutionary spirits, the future of a country is bright. If not, decades-long social systems and revolution will be perished. That is the lesson of blood in the history of the world’s socialist movement”, the article further added. Although, their writing style reminds us of an Austrian born who went on to commit one of the World’s biggest genocides.
The regime of North Korea under the dictatorship of Kim Jong-un, like any generic dictatorial state considers any outside influence as taboo and is busy rooting out all the sources that affect the youth’s standard way of life which includes their political ideology, hairstyles, music, dressing and social progress.
