3 Tennessee Dems face expulsion after gun control ‘stunt’
3 Tennessee lawmakers of the Democratic Party face expulsion from the state’s House of Representatives after participating in a gun control protest on the house floor.
Hundreds of ‘protestors’ had marched in the Tennessee State Capitol last week calling for measures against armed violence after the deadly Nashville shooting that left 6 people dead, including 3 children.
Tennessee Republicans have accused the Dem lawmakers and the protestors of disrupting the proceedings. Furthermore, the 3 Democratic lawmakers have been accused of ‘disorderly behavior’ after they stood on the House floor and used a bullhorn to lead the protestors.
The three lawmakers, Justin Jones, Justin Pearson, and Gloria Johnson have been accused of actively participating in the siege and inciting the sentiments of the protestors who stormed the statehouse.
Jones and Johnson have been relieved off of their committee assignments and the resolution to expel the three lawmakers has been brought to the statehouse floor.
In response to the move, Progressives have held protests ‘shouting’ and accusing the state’s House of being “Republican,” forgetting that the Republican majority was elected by the people of the State of Tennessee.
Many are calling out the left’s hypocrisy over the issue. Reminding them how January 06 was dubbed as an “insurrection ignited by the words of President Trump.”
It is ironic to many how the protestors are labeled as rioters and terrorists when they are Republican/hold different values, but are turned into protestors holding a demonstration when they hold Progressive values.
Everybody has the right to protest peacefully, but if Jan. 06 was an insurrection solely because of people storming Capitol Hill, then comparisons would be made.
The three lawmakers represent around 200,000 people in Tennessee and some are even accusing them of trying to hook in more voters with this ‘stunt’ with the microphone and bullhorn at the time of grief when innocent lives were lost.
The state’s ACLU has condemned the decision to expel the lawmakers, saying it is too “extreme.” Two-thirds of the House need to vote in favor of the expulsion in order for the members to be booted.
Mass protests were held throughout the country following the March 27 shooting. The shooter was identified as 28-year-old Audrey Hale, a former student of the same Christian school. He was taken out by Police 14 minutes after the attack.
The authorities are yet to determine the motive behind the attack, but are suspecting some resentment.
