Fauci set to step down in December

Dr. Anthony Fauci is set to step down as the head of the NIAID and as the chief medical advisor to President Biden in December.

Dr. Fauci, 81, who has served as the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for 38 years announced that he will leave both his positions in December in order to “pursue the next chapter” of his career.

He drew both praise and flak for spearheading the nation’s response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. His supporters hailed his policies and “timely” response, while his critics exposed his conflicting statements on the virus and vaccines in general.

President Biden thanked Dr. Fauci for his service and “scientific integrity.” In his statement, Biden said the US is “more resilient” and “stronger” because of Doctor Fauci.

Fauci is set to step down in December but he isn’t leaving the field of medicine.

Fauci’s Career:

Anthony Fauci joined the NIH in 1968 after President Kennedy’s assassination. He became the director of the NIAID in 1984 when the AIDS epidemic was wreaking havoc.

Fauci became America’s most famous doctor in 2020 when the COVID-19 Pandemic started, and soon became the face of America’s fight against the virus.

It wasn’t long before Fauci’s conflicting statements and policies that seemed authoritarian to many people made him a controversial figure.
