Jerusalem shooting leaves several injured
A shooting in Jerusalem has left several people inured, with at least two in critical condition, according to officials in Israel.
At least eight people were injured and among the critically injured are pregnant woman and another person. The suspect fired at a bus carrying pilgrims who were coming back after offering prayers at one of Judaism’s Holiest site.
The gunman had fled but later turned himself in. He targeted a bus near King David’s Tomb and a parking area near the Western Wall. The bus was full at the time of the attack, according to the bus driver talking to local Israeli media.
According to the driver, he couldn’t start the bus because the ramp was open and had an elderly lady in a wheelchair on it.
At least four of the injured were Americans of the same family, visiting from New York. The attacker is a Palestinian from East Jerusalem.
This attack comes a week after Israel responded to militant group Palestinian Islamic Jihad’s rocket (1,000) attacks. The country’s response killed at least 47 people in the Gaza Strip in the course of three days.
Israel has said most of the civilians killed during the response were because of PIJ’s rockets that failed to clear Gaza. It has promised to investigate the civilian deaths caused by its response.
