Myanmar junta executes four Democracy activists
Myanmar’s junta (military) has executed four Democracy activists in what is seen as the country’s first set of capital punishments in decades.
Four of the country’s most prominent Democracy activists were executed. Among them were Ko Jimmy, a writer and activist, former lawmaker Phyo Zeya Thaw, along with Hla Myo Aung and Aung Thura Zaw, both accused of ‘terrorism.’
The executions were first announced by the junta in June, sparking international condemnation. These are the first since the military’s takeover of the country.
After successfully dispelling protestors, Myanmar’s military is now able to conduct swift trials to punish those opposing February 2021’s coup.
Myanmar’s military had accused the government of rigging the elections and decided to topple it after the country’s Election Commission also deemed the elections fair.
