Child shoots and kills 8-year-old brother in tragic accident

A 5-year-old child shoots and kills his 8-year-old brother in a tragic accident in Jefferson County, Arkansas.

The firearm was unprotected, officers responded to a 911 call from the residence after 2PM. Upon arrival, they found the 8-year-old brother with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the spot.

Police believe the shooting to be an accident but have highlighted this tragic incident could have been avoided had the gun been well secured and out of the reach of children.

An investigation is underway and the child’s body has been taken to State medical examiners.
