Arizona wildfire raises alarm bells as it spreads over 6,000 acres
A fast-spreading wildfire has become a cause for concern for authorities as it forces mass evacuations.
The fire has been supported by strong winds and dry conditions. Investigators are trying to find the cause of this fire. Over 700 homes and hundreds of animals have been forced to evacuate by this “tunnel-fire.”
Authorities are yet to make any gains against its containment, so far they have failed to stop or slow it down. Rescue and relief efforts have been underway for those trapped in their homes but the extent of the fire and fumes have made it almost impossible to help some of those trapped.
Hundreds of homes are in danger of coming into the fire’s path, and over 20 buildings have already been destroyed.
Coconino County Sheriff Jim Driscoll said he’s “very proud” of the evacuation efforts that began on short notice. According to Sheriff Driscoll, his officers put themselves in harms way against this fast-spreading fire to help evacuate families.
A state of emergency has already been declared in Coconino County and authorities are urging residents to follow the evacuation orders.
FEMA funds have already been authorized to help Arizona contain this tunnel-fire that started around 4:30PM Sunday.
