by News Desk March 13, 2022

An American journalist who was working in Ukraine has been killed in the city of Irpin that’s located just outside Kyiv.

50-year-old Brent Renaud, a journalist who has worked with the New York Times was shot dead, according to Police. Kyiv’s Police Chief has said that Renaud and two other journalists were targeted by Russian soldiers. The other two journalists, another American and an Italian were injured in this cowardly attack and are at a local Hospital.

Renaud’s killing marks the first death of a foreign journalist in Ukraine since the beginning of the invasion. One of the victims, an Italian journalist who was with Renaud at the time of the attack said they were offered a route across the other side of an Irpin bridge only to be ambushed.

Renaud was “shot in the neck” and was “left behind,” according to the Italian journalist.

National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has said the US could take appropriate measures against Russia over this brazen killing.

Attacks on foreign journalists are increasing in Ukraine as Russia surrounds Kyiv and tries to “shut down” the country’s information centers. Moscow is attacking and killing journalists to send a message to the World and to journalists working in Ukraine, that they should not cover the invasion or they’ll face consequences.
