3 killed in crashes amid ‘super fog’ on I-95

Florida I-95

Three people were killed in a series of crashes involving multiple vehicles on Interstate-95 in Volusia County, Florida early Thursday.

The crashes occurred in Volusia County due to reduced visibility amid fog and smoke.

The smoke came from prescribed burns of vegetation according to officials.

There were 5 separate crashes says Florida Highway Patrol: 4 on the northbound side involving 11 vehicles resulting 1 death. One on the southbound side involving 6 vehicles causing 2 deaths.

Rescue teams took the injured including a child to a nearby Hospital. The child is now in a stable condition according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Interstate-95 is the primary north-south highway artery along the East Coast, starting from South Florida to Maine.

Consequently, Interstate-95 was partially shut down due to the accidents.

“We have I-95 shut down from SR-44 in Volusia County to SR-5 in Brevard County. We do expect those closures to remain in place throughout the day, possible into early evening,” announced Lt. Kim Montes.
