Queen Elizabeth has tested positive for COVID-19, Buckingham Palace announced on Sunday.

Britain’s Queen is experiencing “mild cold-like symptoms” but expects to continue “light duties” at Windsor over the coming week, the palace said in a statement.

“She will continue to receive medical attention and will follow all the appropriate guidelines,” it further added.

This comes after the British government planned to lift the legal requirement of self-isolation after testing positive. People in the UK are legally required to self-isolate for at least 5 days after testing positive for COVID-19.

Her eldest son and heir to the British throne, Prince Charles had tested positive on February 10 shortly after meeting his mother on February 08. His wife and Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla also confirmed she had the virus on Monday.

Several people tested positive at Windsor Castle, the residence of Queen Elizabeth.

“I’m sure I speak for everyone in wishing Her Majesty The Queen a swift recovery from COVID and a rapid return to vibrant good health,” said British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Opposition leader Keir Starmer also wished the Queen “good health and a speedy recovery,” concluding with “Get well soon, Ma’am.”

“My thoughts, and the thoughts of millions of Canadians, are with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II today. We’re wishing her a fast and full recovery from COVID-19,” Canadian PM Justin Trudeau tweeted.

Queen Elizabeth, 95, will turn 96 this April. She recently celebrated her 70 years on the throne in early February. Where she participated in her first major public engagement in 3 months, meeting charity workers in Sandringham House.

She has a pretty busy schedule in the forthcoming months leading to her Platinum Jubilee. She will attend various in-person public meetings, including a diplomatic reception at Windsor, and the Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey in March.
