Russia claims troops are leaving; World doesn’t buy it

by News Desk February 15, 2022

Russia says it is sending some of its troops back from the Ukrainian border in order to quash fears of an invasion.

Large-scale drills are set to continue but the country’s Defense Ministry says some troops are being sent back from the region.

Regional and World powers however, aren’t buying it.

Over a 100,000 troops have amassed at the border with Ukraine since November. As the response to this escalation was swift and dire sanctions were promised – with even the Nord Stream 2 in danger – Russia, shocked, went on the backfoot and has now announced the decision in a bid to deescalate tensions. Although, the announcement is welcomed but no one is buying it as it can be a red herring.

On Saturday, the US said an invasion was imminent and moved its Embassy out of Kyiv. Anonymous The Conservative sources said it is expected around Wednesday.

NATO has welcomed the Russian announcement but said there is so far no evidence on the ground that suggests the troops are being withdrawn.

Russia will have to send back a set number of troops and equipment to convince the World that it does not intend to invade Ukraine.

The move comes after the US and NATO rejected the Russian demands of barring Ukraine from joining the alliance – and said it is up to Ukraine to decide whether it wants to join NATO or not.

Ukraine has hailed the Russian announcement and is optimistic but will only believe it once it’s actually followed.

After making the announcement, Russia declared that the day would “go down in history” when “western propaganda failed,” and the West was “disgraced and destroyed” without the firing of a bullet.

Ironically, the Russian declaration comes after the country amassed over a 100,000 troops, moved heavy machinery including tanks to the border with Ukraine and handed out a list of unacceptable demands to the World.

Experts have been pointing this out as ridiculous propaganda to save face after the consequences of an invasion were swiftly pointed out.

As an invasion would have severe costs for Russia, Putin is now on the defense and Russian propaganda is paving the way for Russia’s Plan B – to back out by claiming that an invasion was never planned and all this was just “western propaganda.”
