China sides with Russia and sends message to NATO

by News Desk February 4, 2022

As tensions with Russia over Ukraine grow, China has sent a clear message ahead of the Winter Olympics on its future by siding with Moscow.

Both countries issued a joint statement agreeing on a score of issues during Putin’s visit to China for the Winter Olympics. Russia has supported China’s views on Taiwan, while China has indirectly supported Russia’s ‘concerns’ over NATO’s presence in Europe.

In the joint statement, both countries showed ‘concerns’ over the AUKUS pact and accused NATO of giving rise to a Cold War ideology.

Russia has called the talks “very warm” as a clear message has been sent to the World over the countries’ cooperation in the future over annexations.

Putin also hoped to send Russian gas to China so that he could evade sanctions from the US and EU over Ukraine. The US however, has made it clear that if Chinese companies secretly help Russia bypass the sanctions then they would also be penalized.

All eyes are now on Putin, whether he orders the invasion of Ukraine like he did for Georgia in 2008 while the World was busy with the Olympics.
