Ballistic missile fired at UAE during Israeli President’s visit
UAE downed a ballistic missile fired by Iranian-backed Yemeni Houthis as Israeli President Isaac Herzog was visiting the country.
This is the latest of the string of attacks on UAE this month by Iranian-backed Houthis. No loss of life was reported by the country’s Ministry of Defense.
The remnants of ballistic missile was said to have landed just outside a residential area.
UAE is part of the Saudi-led coalition that is fighting the Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen since 2015. Attacks on the country have surged this year and foreign workers were also killed in a kamikaze-styled “suicide drone” attack in the UAE capital earlier in January.
In response to these attacks, the Saudi-led coalition forces have bombarded Houthi strongholds in Yemen, including the capital.
As war rages on, both sides have resorted to vengeance.
The Israeli President’s entourage has remained safe during this attack and is said to be completing his landmark visit. The Houthis had already warned foreigners to get out of the UAE as they were set to “expand” their “operations” against the Gulf country.
The Israeli President condemned the attacks on the UAE after he landed and was then met with an attack by the Houthis.
As war rages on in Yemen and the Saudi-led coalition forces unable to subdue the Houthis, – and restore the internationally recognized government – they are consequentially stuck in the relentless Yemeni quicksand which is not allowing them to get out.
