50-year-old Bridge collapses in Pittsburg; 10 injured
A 50-year-old steel bridge in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania has collapsed with four vehicles and a bus on top of it.
First responders started the rescue efforts and reported that at least 10 people suffered minor injuries. No deaths were reported.
The bridge went down around 7AM on Friday morning, hours before President Biden was to land in the City to promote the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill.
Residents are now being urged to avoid the area since a gas leak has been reported. Pittsburg Mayor Ed Gainey has called the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill “critical” as Pennsylvania alone has thousands of bridges in poor condition.
Biden was landing in the City to mark the beginning of a series of visits to tout the things done by his Administration. He is hoping to divert attention from the never-ending crises his Administration has created and/or poorly handled.
With nothing else to sell, all Biden is now hoping for is to somehow promote the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill and somehow make the Republicans controversial by starting new political quarrels to draw leftist attention and support.
Pennsylvania is set to get around $1.6b out of the $1tn package just to maintain its set of aging bridges. The collapsed steel bridge was last inspected by engineers in September.
Rescuers used over 150ft long ropes and formed human chains to pull the victims out of the rubble.
