West declares unity against Russian aggression on Ukraine
President Biden has said the West stands united against Russia’s troop build-up on its Ukrainian border.
In a video call held with EU leaders on Monday, President Biden reiterated the US resolve to help protect Ukraine and Europe from a Russian invasion.
Russia has long denied reports of a planned invasion – or a semi-controlled revolution inside Ukraine to place a pro-Russian leader – despite sending around a 100,000 troops to the border.
Leaders of France, UK, Germany, Italy, Poland and EU, and NATO chiefs were present in the virtual meeting.
All the countries – the West, as a whole, has decided to draw a redline and any incursion into Ukraine will have “severe costs,” according to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
The allies are set to respond with “swift” and “unprecedented package of sanctions” if an incursion is launched.
Many European countries have vowed to send in fighter jets – apart from military and medical aid – to help Ukraine thwart anticipated Russian aggression.
About 8,500 US troops are also on high-alert but would only be deployed once NATO decides to initiate the rapid reaction force. There are however, no plans to deploy US troops to Ukraine.
The West and NATO has shown that although, it may have reservations against one another over many subjects but is united against any uncalled for aggression.
All eyes are now on Putin, whether he takes the step and signals an invasion or a controlled revolution inside Ukraine to use as an excuse like in Kazakhstan.
