In another major defeat for Biden, SCOTUS blocks vaccine mandates

by News Desk January 13, 2022

The Supreme Court has blocked President Biden’s vaccine mandates that required larger companies to have all of their employees vaccinated or tested every week.

The Justices decided that Biden overstepped his authority by trying to enforce federal mandates upon the people. In a separate ruling, they decided that a more limited version of the mandate could be applied that would be limited to government-sponsored healthcare facilities.

The vaccine mandates had required businesses with over a 100 employees to get their workforce vaccinated or require them to be tested weekly at their own expense.

The mandates affected over 82 million workers and the responsibility to get them vaccinated was handed to the employers.

In a 6-3 verdict, the Supreme Court decided that the vaccine mandates exceeded the powers of the Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

The Court said the mandates were a “significant encroachment on the lives and health of a large number of employees.”

The limited rule which would apply to about 10 million workers in healthcare facilities was accepted 5-4 instead. The rulings came just as the mandates were set to come into full effect later this week.

President Biden showed frustration and urged employers to encourage their staffers to get vaccinated.
