Casualties feared as fire ravages Bronx apartment building

A four-year-old, two five-year-olds, two 11-year-olds, a 12-year-old and a six-year-old are among the dead.

The fire was on the second and third floors but the deadly thick smoke had spread everywhere.

Mayor Eric Adams has called this a “global tragedy.”

The victims are believed to be Muslim Americans who had immigrated from Gambia.

The devastating fire has killed at least 19 people, including 9 children. Several people in the Hospital are in critical condition.

Firefighters found victims lying on every floor. Experts believe the fire was caused by an electric heater that might have malfunctioned.

Smoke had entered all the floors after the door of the apartment where the fire erupted was left open.

Videos circulating online show thick black smoke spewing out of the building.

Over 30 people have been seriously injured after a fire broke out in a Bronx high-rise apartment building.

Over 180 firefighters are leading the rescue and relief efforts of this five-alarm fire at 333 East 181 Street in the Bronx. Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro said the New York City Fire Department is expecting “numerous fatalities.”

Over 60 people, including children have been injured in this incident. So far, there are no reports of any burns suffered by those injured.

All of them are reportedly suffering from serious smoke inhalation – smoke poisoning.

The fire is said to have erupted in the second and third floors of the building and triggered just around 11AM.

Commissioner Nigro called the smoke conditions in the building, “unprecedented.”
