Texas teacher locked COVID-positive son in car trunk
A Harris County, Texas teacher has been arrested after she allegedly locked her COVID-positive son in her car’s trunk to protect herself from exposure.
Sarah Beam, 41, a Cypress Falls High School teacher since 2011, had locked her son so that she could take him to a testing site without contracting the virus. She has been charged with child endangerment.
A witness had reported her after hearing voices from the back of her car on January 03. Once the District Director of Health Services arrived to gather information, Beam opened the trunk only to reveal her son lying inside.
Beam said her 13-year-old was COVID-positive and she was taking him to a testing center to double-check. She was afraid of being exposed to the virus so thought it best to lock her son in the trunk.
The District Director had reportedly told Beam that they wouldn’t test the child unless he was allowed to sit on the back seat.
Beam has now been placed on administrative leave. The investigation has concluded and she has been charged with child endangerment.
