Pennsylvania congresswoman’s stolen vehicle found in Delaware
Representative Mary Gay Scanlon’s vehicle in Philadelphia that was snatched at gunpoint – along with other valuables – has now been found in Delaware.
Her ID and government phone were also snatched by two armed suspects. The Democrat remained uninjured during the robbery and is safe.
Five suspects have been taken into custody who were reportedly inside the vehicle when it was found by the Delaware State Police and the FBI.
It isn’t clear whether they were involved in the armed robbery of the congresswoman.
Like other major Democratic-run cities, Philadelphia too, is battling a crime surge since the death of George Floyd that caused mass riots and gave birth to a wave of looting and arson.
The robbery occurred at around 2:45PM on Wednesday after the Representative – along with her staffer – was walking back to her car from a meeting at the FDR Park in southern Philadelphia.
According to the Police, the armed suspects tailed the congresswoman in an SUV before taking their guns out.
Congresswoman Scanlon has supported the radical idea of “reforming” the Police by sending in Mental health experts to some crime scenes instead of law enforcement officers.
She became the second lawmaker in two days to have her car taken by armed robbers. Illinois Senate Majority leader Kimberly Lightford, also a Democrat, had her vehicle taken away from her at gunpoint just a day earlier.
Gunshots were reportedly fired in that incident, the Senator and her husband escaped uninjured. Sen. Lightford too has supported “defunding” the Police.
