Casualties feared as fire ravages Bronx apartment building

Update (December 23 at 11:51PM)

Investigators say carbon monoxide poisoning was the cause of the family members’ deaths. Their blood tests showed lethal levels of the chemical.

The family had moved from Honduras in 2013 and included 3 children. The couple’s brother and niece are also among the 7 victims.

Authorities are still trying to find the cause of the poisonings. The house has two sources for carbon monoxide, one is the furnace and the other is a van in the garage.

The test results can take up to 8 weeks. So far, it seems accidental as the chemical is colorless and odorless.

Five of the victims were found in their beds while two of them were on the floor. Authorities believe the couple was awake when it happened.

Please make sure your stoves are properly shut when are not being used and out of the reach of children.
