Five children die in Australia’s tragic bouncy castle incident
At least five children have died and four others injured in Australia’s bouncy castle tragedy caused by severe wind.
The bouncy castle was blown up in the air by a wind gust on Thursday at a primary school in Devonport, Tasmania. The children had fallen on the ground from about 32ft.
Paramedics responded quickly to the scene and five children were flown to a nearby Hospital. Four were already dead when they first arrived on scene. The fifth child died at the Hospital.
Police did not make their ages public but the victims are believed to be between the ages 10 to 12, and include both boys and girls.
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has described the tragic incident as “unthinkably heartbreaking” as young children were on a fun day out on the last day of school.
A coroner’s investigation is being conducted as parents try to cope with this tragedy. The incident has shocked all of Australia.
Measures will now be taken to ascertain that bouncy castles and any other inflatables are securely fastened to the ground before children can play.
