California Governor Gavin Newsom took a dig at the Supreme Court decision to let the Texas abortion law running.

Newsom released a statement saying he plans to propose a gun control law under the abortion law model. He said that if states can bypass Federal courts when enforcing laws then his state will “use that authority to help protect lives.”

I am outraged by yesterday’s US Supreme Court decision allowing Texas’ ban on most abortion services to remain in place, and largely endorsing Texas’ scheme to insulate its law from fundamental protections of Roe v. Wade. But if states can now shield their laws from review by Federal Courts that compare assault weapons to Swiss Army knives, then California will use that authority to protect people’s lives, where Texas used it to put women in harm’s way.

California Governor Gavin Newsom said in a statement on Saturday.

Newsom said he has directed his staff to work with the California Legislature and Attorney General’s office to draft a bill that would allow private citizens to sue assault weapon, ghost gun kit, or parts manufacturers, distributors, or sellers in the state.

I have directed my staff to work with the Legislature and the Attorney General on a bill that would create a right of action allowing private citizens to seek injunctive relief, and statutory damages of at least $10,000 per violation plus costs and attorney’s fees, against anyone who manufactures, distributes, or sells an assault weapon or ghost gun kit or parts in the State of California. If the most efficient way to keep these devastating weapons off our streets is to add the threat of private lawsuits, we should do just that.

Gov. Gavin Newsom concluded in the statement.

Under any such bill, private citizens would be able to sue gun manufacturers, distributers, etc., for over $10,000 per “violation” in the State of California.

Many online find it interesting how Gavin Newsom wants to take away their 2nd Amendment right. Some are also saying that abortion is not a Constitutional right, and using it to “go authoritarian” and try and take down the 2nd Amendment is just unfortunate and a clear violation of the “Right of the people to keep and bear arms.”
