by News Desk December 12, 2021

Over 80 people have been confirmed dead by the 30 overnight tornadoes that hit six states on Saturday.

Dozens are still missing and rescuers are finding it difficult to search for people in entire towns that have been left destroyed. Kentucky, is the the worst affected state in terms of both damage and deaths.

Over 70 people died in Kentucky alone and the Governor had already announced the grim news that his state expected over a 100 deaths.

At least 60 remain missing in the collapsed candle factory in Mayfield, Kentucky alone. 40 people were rescued but officials do not expect any more recoveries under the rubble that has cars, chemical barrels on top of it.

Six people died when the Amazon warehouse in Illinois collapsed, it isn’t clear how many workers are still trapped inside the wreckage.

About three people died in Tennessee and two people died in Arkansas, one of them a nursing home patient after the building partially collapsed. Missouri confirmed a death as well.

Biden had already promised Federal assistance, and has released funds for Kentucky under the Federal Emergency Disaster Declaration.

Over 200,000 people are without power in Kentucky and Tennessee. The Kentucky National Guard has been busy helping in the rescue and recovery efforts.

The destruction caused by these tornadoes has never been seen before. Entire cities have been destroyed and residents cant even recognize their neighborhoods, where they grew up and played outside as kids.

Officials are urging people in the affected areas not to go outside on the roads as broken power cables can pose a significant threat to their lives.
