Homeless NYC man out without bail after assaulting two women

by News Desk December 7, 2021

A homeless man in New York City who was out without bail (bail reform) for the alleged assault of a man last year, assaulted two women last week, but is out without bail again.

Darrell Johnson, 23, was released without bail because of the new bail reform laws accepted by state lawmakers in 2019. He was brought to court last Friday, and the Judge agreed with Prosecutors over his release under supervision.

Johnson had beaten up two women in “unprovoked attacks” last Thursday in Manhattan. One of his victims was a 50-year-old woman who was left with a disfigured wound on her face.

His second victim, a 32-year-old had her face left swollen by the punching. She was attacked just minutes after Johnson had left the first victim.

Both women were shifted to a nearby Hospital where they were treated.

The string of reforms brought by New York state lawmakers are testing both civilian, and Police patience. Law enforcement officials work hard to catch criminals only to see them being released again without bail to commit more crimes.

Johnson’s case is the latest example of how a suspect out without bail for assaulting a man last year ended up doing the same thing, and is out again.

The incoming mayor and Police commissioner will face the public’s heat if things stay out of control, but they won’t be able to do anything unless the radical reforms are repealed, or improved.
